Bah Humbug!

Two things are making me grouchy about the holidays this week!

1. Amazon.com's Supersaver Shipping: Every time I use this option to get free shipping, the site says this option will take "an additional 3 to 5 days to ship." Each time I choose this option, it actually takes WEEKS to ship items that are listed as in stock and should ship within one day. I just checked on (my last) Christmas gift order, and it was scheduled to arrive AFTER CHRISTMAS even though I ordered it on NOVEMBER 14. Of course, this order includes ten items for my husband and children, so I can't wait until after Christmas morning to give it to them. Lame. So I changed the order, paid for regular shipping, and now it MIGHT arrive before Christmas. I was trying to stay on top of holiday shopping and avoid last-minute wrapping and what-not. I hate Supersaver Shipping. Such a crock of shit.

2. Living Christmas Tree shows: I tried to reach out, be open minded, get out of my cynical comfort zone, and bought 4 tickets to the "Living Christmas Trees" show at Grace Brethren Church. Since I moved here to Columbus, I've heard about this show and how great it is for families and what a huge production. My husband was skeptical about exposing our daughter to the story of Christ's birth, but I assured him that it was important for her to learn the origins of Christmas, and that the show would be a holiday-spectacular-thing as well as a live nativity. And hey, there were going to be live camels and other animals! So, my father take the day off of work and he, my mother, and I take my daughter to the show. She's 4 1/2 and we're not Christian. I know it's a church production, but my boss told me she went a few years ago and yeah, there was the whole birth of Christ thing, but there were cool, live animals and Snoopy was dancing around and they had Victorian-era ice skaters on stage, so it's all good. So we go, and it's two and a half hours long. Way too long. And about 2/3 of it is nice and Jesus is born and we're learning our lesson about how good God is and there are donkeys and sheep and two camels and dancing Gingerbread Man and his whole family. Oh yeah, and then there is the live crucifixion of the adult Jesus, complete with nails in the hands, whipping his body, and him hanging on a cross in front of us, dying a slow death. Yeah, that was really uncalled for and way more violent than my G-rated daughter can handle. I thought it was Christmas, not Easter. So now she's scarred for life after seeing a man murdered in front of her. Thanks, Grace Brethren Church. I tried to expose her to the Christian tenets. Now my daughter never wants to set foot in a church again. Good job.

Brad Pitt to Adopt Angelina Jolie's Kids

This was in a small article on the very last page of a section of Sunday's paper. I think it should be closer to the front - somehow this legitimizes their relationship, so it becomes less important news.

From People Magazine

Brad Pitt has started the process to adopt Angelina Jolie's two kids, the actor's publicist said in a statement to PEOPLE.

A legal petition to change the names of the children to Zahara Jolie-Pitt and Maddox Jolie-Pitt was filed in Los Angeles, according to publicist Cindy Guagenti.

"Brad Pitt is in the process of becoming the adoptive father of both children," Guagenti said in the statement.

There are no plans for marriage at this time, she added.

'Tis the Season

We put our tree up last night. Listened to the non-stop Christmas song station while doing it. We all had a really nice time and got into the holiday spirit.

Then Roman woke up at 1:30 AM with a 103.3 fever. Shaking, delirious. Gave him a tepid bath right away, but didn't help. He wouldn't take any meds, so I had to give him an acetaminaphen suppository. Overall, a horrid night for all. I'm still traumatized...

Drops of blood on the sidewalk outside my office building. Turns out a student employee fell while holding a glass and got cut up really bad. My courier's wife is vomiting nonstop and can't even stand up. He and our HR Manager went to her house to carry her (literally) to the ER. Just another manic Monday...

Probably leaving work early to get rest. Feel like shit myself.
